Another long, enjoyable day at Ellis Beach. The weather is pleasantly warm, both day and night. We sleep on top of our bedding, but it is not uncomfortably hot and we sleep well. In the early morning the air is still balmy, with a fresh breeze blowing in from the sea. Getting out of bed ceratainly poses no difficulties for the children- they are dressed and on the beach at first light!

After lunch we had a swim in the pool. We had to try out a boogie board we had been given this morning, a present from another young couple heading home this week (this time from Switzerland). Our friend the lizard was waiting for us, and came running as soon as he saw us. This time he even crawled onto our hands and let us pick him up, even when we had no flies to offer him!
When I posted the photos of the sunbird a few days ago my nephew, Tim, said in a comment: "In my bird book I looked up the sunbird and the one that you saw was a female yellow bellied sunbird. The males have a big blue patch on the feathers under their bill." We saw a pair of them today, and the male did have blue patches on his cheeks. I didn't have my camera with me, though.
I had been promising the children to help them build a sandcastle. For one reason and another we still hadn't got around to it so I thought we'd better do it this afternoon if I wanted to keep my promise before we leave tomorrow.

Digging for treasure. |
We have been blessed with the weather over this past week. Before we arrived, it had been raining and windy. We had the same weather in the Atherton Tablelands, of course, but rain in the rainforest and mist in the Misty Mountains are one thing, while wet, windy weather at the beach is another! It has been sunny and warm every day since we arrived, but according to the forecast there is more rain on the way after tomorrow. By which time we hope to be well on our way to Bundaberg.
