As it isn't easy to keep the children entertained in the caravan for any length of time, we decided to take another drive. We thought we'd head to the Ma-Mu canopy walk and see what the weather was like when we got there...
The scenic route took us through lovely hills and forested stretches, all shrouded in mist and rain. Along the way we stopped to look at a number of waterfalls and had coffee and cake at a biodynamic (and very expensive!) dairy.
When we got to Ma-Mu the rain had eased and we decided to do the canopy walk. I had to battle my fear of heights- first on the catilevered viewing platform, where the last ten metres overhang a lot of space, and then along the elevated walkway through the treetops. I drew the line at the lookout tower, allowing Philip and the children to climb to the top without me!
The walk was well worth the effort. There were information boards all along the route, telling about the damage done to this forest by Cyclone Larry in 2006 and pointing out the ways in which the forest was recovering and fighting for survival. The children were given a "treasure hunt" to tick off along the way and we were given some brochures about the forest fruits and other edible plants. For me, however, the beauty of the forest was enough, without trying to absorb a lot of information. The gentle rain and the sounds of birds all around were like balm for the soul.

How fun! My son was looking on today and said, "Where's that Mom?" So I explained...he was a little sad he couldn't be there too....cause it looks so awesome! =)
