Today we travelled from Katherine to Darwin. It was a bit sad to say good-bye to Floyd, but the children were excited that they would soon see Helen and her dog Rex!
Along the way I tried to "catch" some road trains for Tim (who had requested that I include more of them in the blog!) They move so fast that it's not always easy to take a clear picture. You can feel the whole car shake as they "Whoosh" past. Some of them are about 53 metres long!
The road trains aren't the only big things we saw- we saw huge termite mounds along the way. We stopped to take a photo of one. These are built by what are known as Cathedral Termites- you can see why!
We stopped at Adelaide River for lunch. (I made some bacon and eggs- one of the nice things about towing a kitchen behind you!) In a nearby mango tree we saw a nest made by some green tree ants by sticking the leaves together. I also stood under the tree and just breathed in the smell of ripening mangoes- so familiar from my early childhood in Mango Lane!
So here we are in Darwin! We have our caravan just outside Helen's little unit on a nice bush property at Berimah.. Arthur loves the view from our front door- a row of quad bikes and ride-on mowers. We met her landlords and their dog as well, and this evening Helen took us out to dinner. It was a mexican restaurant, and we asked Esther what she wanted to order. She turned to the waitress and said, "Do you have Margaritas?" "I think you might be a bit young for one of those!" said the waitress... and we had to explain that Esther meant the pizza, not the cocktail!
There are several frogs living in Helen's bathroom! We caught this little grey one tonight, but we're told there is a green tree frog living under the rim of the toilet, too! Apparently there are also lots of cane toads around, but we haven't seen any yet.
We haven't seen any reptiles today, but in the next few days we hope to visit a crocodile farm, so watch this space!

Remember the green ants nest in our garden at Milingimbi? Plenty of them. And the ants bite and seem to attakwith the slightest disturbance.
Did you look under the toilet rimWe have not been in Darwin after Tracy, so it probably looks very different now. Love the photo of Esther with the little frog. Dad
