Philip needed a computer battery, so we decided to drive into Adelaide this morning. It was pouring with rain, so it would have been hard to keep the kids entertained inside anyway!
We took the scenic road through the Adelaide Hills on the way there- about and hour and a half's drive. While the Barossa is almost like being in a foreign country, the hills were very familiar and reminded us of the Yarra Valley. Esther had fallen asleep in the car (no wonder, as she had been awake since 5:30!!), so I waited in the car while Philip went to find the computer shop. Looking out of the window, Arthur said, "Oh, no. It's just another city with lots of buildings. And it's raining." Which just about summed it up, actually!
On a sunny day we could have spent some time exploring the many lovely parks and gardens in South Australia's capital, but it was far too wet today, so we needed to find an indoor activity for the children. The Museum was just around the corner, so we decided to have a look. As we parked our car, another driver who was just driving off asked if we wanted his parking ticket, which still had just over two hours left! Little gestures like that can really make your day. The children really enjoyed the museum, especially the "information centre" where everything was hands-on.
Driving back "home" we took the shorter and more direct route. Once again I was struck by the lush, green landscape of the area we're staying in- the country of books I loved as a child such as "The Sun on the Stubble."
Tomorrow we'll be heading into very different country as we start our journey into the outback.

Jowie and I went to the Art Gallery in Adelaide years ago - it's a nice, neat city, isn't it? Beautiful countryside in the Barossa - love the photos. All the best for the next stage of the trip! Henkela
