Barossa Valley (Day 3)

This is such a lovely part of the world! Today we took a drive south from Tununda to the Lyndoch Lavendar Farm.

From there we visited the Whispering Wall at Barossa Reservoir Dam.  After building this arch-shaped dam, it was found that standing on one side you can speak in a normal voice and be heard clearly on the other side! (I remember the Boucks took us here when "Aunt" Ruth, Amy and I stayed with them in 1975.)

We then drove back to Nuriootpa and visited "Whistler's"- a small winery owned by the "Pfeiffer" family- followed by a late lunch at Maggie Beer's Farm Shop. We took some photos in her kitchen, which is the set for her TV show, "The Cook and the Chef".

When we got back, the children made a beeline for their beloved jumping pillow (I want one at home for them to burn energy on!) and I went for a walk while Philip watched them. Something that has struck us while we've been here is how clean and tidy it all is- not only the townships, but even the farms! Probably another legacy of the German migrants who first settled the area.

Tomorrow we plan to see some more of the sights, starting with the local farmers' market at Angaston.

great photos Amaria. Ranita said it was the first time she has seen a monarch butterfly...she is doing mini beasts this term...don't know if she is right :) The children seem to be having a really good time, they'll have some fantastic memories of this trip.

WOW! Beautiful lavendar farms - I love lavendar. Reminds me of the big lavendar fileds in France (not that I've ever been there, but from pictures at High School; always thought they'd be beautiful to visit.) .... and Maggie Beer's farm shop. How good is Maggie Beer - my favourite when she visited on Masterchef! That's a great shot of you in her kitchen, Amaria. Wish I could be with you in the Barossa Valley now. Great you're having such a nice time ... and taking such wonderful photos .. and sharing them with us. Thanks! I guess you are videoing too - a bit of a hassle lugging the cameras around, isn't it? But it's so nice to have the pictures and films to look back on!!! Make sure you enjoy the moments - which i'm sure you are since you don't have such a tight schedule and can't really rush from place to place with little ones with you anyway. thinking of you ... and I'm loving reading your blog each morning. Love, Henkela
