Into the Outback!

Today we drove and drove and drove...

...stopped at Port Germein to have lunch, stretch our legs and look at the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere (1.7 km long!)...

...and then drove some more!  (Those are the Flinders Ranges.)

Finally we passed this road sign as we were coming out of Port Augusta...

... and suddenly we were in the desert! I asked Arthur what he thought and he said "It's not bad, but there's too much of it!" (And there is rather a lot- the vast distances have to be seen to be appreciated!),

Finally, after driving for about 500 km altogether, we got to the roadside stop at Lake Hart, just past Woomera.  When we got there it was raining (as it had been all day), but suddenly the sun came out, and we were able to go for a walk. We don't have power here, and the laptop battery is running low, so I'll just let some of the pictures we took tell the story! Execept to say that Arthur, walking along with Philip, said, "You know Dad, I think I'm starting to like the desert!"

I'm like Arthur, I travelled a few times through the Nullabor by bus and after a while I thought it was beautiful. Do the children amuse themselves during the long distances?
