Moorook

It was hard to get out of bed this morning, it was so cold!! When we did, we had breakfast as quickly as we could and were back on the road. It was misty until almost midday and remained overcast for the rest of the day.  This didn't detract from the rugged beauty of the country we drove through. Mallee scrub and red soil until we neared Mildura, then grape vines, orange groves and almond orchards in full blossom.
We had forgotten the fruitfly quarantine zone which meant we had to hand over all our apples and oranges at Yamba, just over the South Australian border.  Ironically, our oranges were "Nippy's" which are grown and distributed just up the road from where we are staying tonight!!
We've found a small camping ground at Moorook, on the banks of the Murray River.

Almost straight away we found ourselves chatting to the few other campers- "grey nomads" and experienced travellers with suggestions and advice to offer. Our neighbours, Kevin and Murray (yes, Murray) invited the children to come and have a look at the yabbies they'd caught, and have a taste when they cooked some.

While Esther helped Dad build a fire, Arthur made friends with a baby bird which we later discovered was a blue faced honeyeater. To his delight, it allowed him to stroke it while it fed from his hand!

Toasting marshmallows over the fire made the perfect end to a lovely day.
