We had a really nice time with John and Jowie! Joannet had a night shift on Saturday night, so we took the kids out of the house for most of the day-first to see the lambs at a neighbour's farm and then into Bendigo for some shopping. Ruth (Jowie's sister and my "best friend" when we were kids, now living in Perth) came to stay on Sunday, so we had a chance to catch up on old times, which was nice.
As we left Elphinstone this morning I was reminded of a song I heard at school years ago:
"Where are we going? I don't know! When will we get there? I ain't certain! All that I know is we are on our way!" Already we're getting used to the slower pace of travel with a caravan in tow. Philip has remarked that he'll never be impatient when he's stuck behind one again :) The relaxed pace allows you to appreciate the country you're driving through- the alpaca and sheep farms around Castlemaine changing to wheat crops and canola fields (some already in bloom), and starting to give way to mallee and saltbush as we approach the Murray-Sunset national park.
Right now we're camped in a rest area just south of Hattah. It's cold and pouring with rain, but we're cosy inside our little house on wheels- in spite of having no heating as we have no power!
Tomorrow we hope to cross the border into South Australia.
